Volunteers
Volunteers are an essential part of the school program. They assist by providing extra help and attention for the children or by preparing instructional materials. This makes it possible for the teachers to spend more instructional time with students.
Volunteers may help with special programs and on study trips. They may work with a particular teacher or a special student on a regular basis. They may also tutor a student, work in a small group or read a story.
Some activities may be non-instructional such as data entry, preparing materials, assisting in the office, health room or media center or arranging bulletin boards.
Volunteers may have their own special interests or talents to share with students. An example would be showing slides for a Social Studies unit or presenting costumes, crafts, or music for ethnic studies.
Volunteers who come on a regular basis work under the sponsorship of the Red Cross. This provides a documented volunteer record as well as free baby-sitting entitlements while volunteering.
